Yoga is a powerful sport and a very effective complementary physical therapy. It is also a therapy for improving mood. We heal faster in the group setting and yoga is a mindful communal experience. It protects and restores health when used sensibly. When practiced without caution it can cause serious injury to the body. Not all its types are of equal value, and some instructors are safer than others. If you live in New York City, below are the names of some local instructors who also teach in the many EQUINOX gyms throughout the city. While most yoga instructors are skilled, it is those below that I have personal experience with and find their approach to be safe. (NOTE: I have no affiliation with EQUINOX.)

Jena Maenius, Johan Montijano, Rita Murjani, Megna Paula, Jacob Reynolds, Miguel Sarmiento, Ana Sussman, Jessica Stickler, Erica Chen, Suzanne Taylor, Ali Cramer, Emma Poole, Dyan Tsiumis, Robert Nguyen, Lawrence Cardenas, Michael Gervais, Donald Johnston, and Liz Wexler.

Rika Henry and Stephanie Schwartz.

If, after completing your initial diagnostic evaluation, I think that you will especially benefit from a regular yoga practice, I will let you know. I will then recommend a separate follow-up appointment for us to discuss how physical exercise could be safely integrated into your health plan.
